I have a confession to make to all of you.  It’s kind of embarrassing and it’s something that I did in secret and hid from the public for a long time.  But now my obsession has reached a point that I can no longer keep my deep, dark secret.  Maybe if I admit I have a problem it will become the first step to my recovery so here goes.  I am a reality show junkie.

I know, boooo, hissss.  Tell your children to cover their eyes.  Such deviant behavior should not be permitted in polite company.  But I can’t help myself.  It started years ago with Survivor.  Yes, I watched the notorious Richard Hatch (aka The Naked Guy) in his original tv debut.  Fascinating.  He was walking around the island NAKED and he was so cocky (forgive the pun) about it.  For years I watched Survivor in the privacy of my own home, not even telling my family that I was secretly TiVo’ing it to watch when I was alone.

Then, in a surge of superior strength, I kicked the habit!  I was Survivor-free until those perverts at CBS decided to do a Survivor all-star reunion and The Naked Guy was back!  It was like blowing smoke in the face of someone who is trying to stop smoking — I was doomed!

Then, other reality shows started worming their way into my TiVo schedule.  Project Runway, which I justified because of my love of sewing and quilting.  Top Chef — maybe I would learn a new recipe or technique that I could wow my customers with.  Then I fell deeper into the well.  She’s Got the Look — maybe because at my age, I want to know that older women can still be attractive.  Flip This House — because I can so turn that shack into a mansion, net $1 million and retire early.  And now, America’s Got Talent.  I know.  Sad.  Very sad.

So I’m going to ask all of you to pray for me.  Help me get over my reality show fixation so that I can watch more intellectual tv programming like Big Bang Theory or Big Love.  Pray for me my friends.  I have to go now…  America’s Got Talent is narrowing the contestants to the quarter finals tonight, the six finalists in Top Chef Masters are squaring off against each other and the top three models on She’s Got the Look are battling it out for an exclusive modeling contract.

I think my TiVo is looking for a new owner.
